Tom Kirkman and friends will be at Haredown on the weekend of April 23rd/24th and Aug 6th/7th. They have been running these training camps for the last couple of years and have grown in popularity. The courses are designed to teach freestyle and more progressive riding – not your first ride down the hill. The weekend will be loads of fun with no end of stuff planned. Call Haredown on 01243 811 976 to book your place.
Here is their press release!
The Tom Kirkman weekend. (April 23rd/24th – Aug 6th/7th Cost:- £80 – w/e.)
We started our first pro weekend in 2005 as a chance for riders to meet, ride and learn with the pro’s of the time and since 2009 that pro has been Tom Kirkman; Tom is a legend in the world of mountain boarding. From the early days he always stood out of the crowd for his talent and style and he is the one who is going faster than anyone else and jumping higher than everyone else. After a while out of the sport Tom is now back in a big way. He won the World Downhill Championships (no brake) in France, then the World Freestyle Championships in August, proving he is truly the best mountain boarder out there. The weekend has been getting better and better each time we hold it and it has now become our highlight of the year as it embodies what Haredown is all about. Last year we saw massive improvement in individual skills with riders learning in a weekend what would otherwise have taken them a lot longer in a wonderful, encouraging, family atmosphere. This year we will have a ratio of 1 instructor to 5 students with the weekend focusing on personal development and enjoyment.
Day 1.
Warm up, and light riding session focusing on what the rider can already do so the instructors will get an idea of what level the riders are at and what direction they want to go in including games such as skate – lunch – Fun riding session and mass decent’s working on skills such as switch stance all aimed to build confidence and develop their current riding ability, then a fun end to the day.
Day 2.
Warm up, Freestyle workshop focusing on learning new tricks and developing existings skills, a lesson on going big as this is one of the most important aspects of freestyle (the bigger you go the easier it is and the more style you can put into your tricks) – lunch – TK- “After lunch we’ll spend time riding and socializing with the kids, we feel this is one of the most important parts of the weekend as the kids get to know us and realize that were no different to them and with a bit of confidence, fun and practice, they could be where we are, doing what we are doing, for the last part of the day we will sit them all down and summarise the weekend, see if there are any other things they want to have a go at and if so, move onto that feature or trick until the day’s over. There will be an ATC Demo when the parents arrive.”This will be an awesome event for any rider with some experience on a board and a great opportunity to meet, ride and learn with the best mountain boarder’s in the world.
The days will run from 10:30 to 18:00 and camping is free for the student/s and their family.
Place’s limited to 10, unless we get interest from 20 or more.
Every rider will receive a goody bag and will be featured in an ATC video of the weekend. The ATC team.
